The Letter

"Come in." Lots said.

The door opened to reveal a small page boy bearing a large silver platter, on the middle of which lay a buff-coloured envelope.

Lots took the envelope, dismissed the boy, tore open the envelope to reveal a piece of white parchment, and proceeded to read the words written thereon:

Dear Mr 42

On behalf of Mr Kantona, I would like to apologise for the previous episode. It would appear that in the previous Episode, Mr Kantona transgressed one of his self-imposed rules, and the most important one at that. For you may recall that Mr Kantona makes a point of never directly appearing in those episodes he has written himself.

In deigning to include himself in the previous episode, Mr Kantona has broken this rule. Mr Kantona would therefore wish to take this opportunity to apologise to you (and to any other writers who may read this) for this behaviour, which we hope you would agree was completely out of character and largely due to the fact that this was the first episode he had written in any extendable-story milieu in over two years. In his defence he reports that he was amused by the idea that the topic of his first-ever episode in NEQ would be his quitting the game.

Just then he chanced to look down onto the floor where he found

2. . . .a bottle of Islay malt whisky, 18 years old
3. Lots tosses the letter away. Who cares?
