the palace grounds that we would use."
"The palace grounds?" Fari asked. "Yes, I was brought up in a palace. I feel that I can trust the good people of Golabi, so I will tell you everything. I am Princess Astra of Aqualaria. I've been keeping that quiet until now because, as you'll know, relations between my country and yours have not been very cordial in recent years. And I had a second reason for keeping my own counsel. I am on the run from Governor Gilder, who wanted to make me his bride and who was keeping me under what you might term house arrest inside his palace." Everyone was looking at her in astonishment. Darkub surreptitiously indicated to Fari, by a twisting motion of his finger against his forehead, that he thought that Zari must be insane. "That's very interesting, khanom," Bakhtar said, recovering from his surprise quicker than the others. "So how did you come to be all on your own in what might be thought of as an enemy country, and how did you finish up in such an out-of-the-way part of Hespan as this?"
