Ia'adoire watched the combat intently. She thought that her love was
probably the underdog. Whilst Light Elves were often highly skilled with
the bow, they rarely took part in unarmed combat, which did not appeal to
them. In contrast, Dark Elves were rumoured to be highly skilled in combat
of all types. Artizza was too recent a recruit to the Champions for
Ia'adoire to be sure of how true that was in her case.
Of course, Lueoth would have memories of unarmed combat from when he was an Astra, but those must have faded now, just as her own memories of combat as Fred had done. Besides, many of the tactics learnt when twice the height and many times the weight would no longer be effective. It looked to Ia'adoire as though Artizza had pretended to lose her grip on the rope, whilst actually ensuring that one end finished twisted round her knuckles, in an attempt to lure Lueoth into an indiscretion. That hadn't worked, but what she had done ensured that she had a stronger grasp on the rope than her opponent had. Now as she pulled backwards, the other end was starting to slip through Lueoth's grip. Ia'adoire winced in sympathy with him, for even such a smooth material as this must surely leave a "burn" on the fingers. Lueoth evidently realised that he must do something fast if the end of the rope was not to slip out of his fingers, which would allow Artizza to tie it round her neck. Suddenly he let go, and as he had hoped Artizza fell over backwards. Lueoth leapt on top of her. But as he came down, Artizza thrust up one knee, catching him in the solar plexus.
