Rock Launching Targets?

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 44682

Suddenly, from a small cave in the mountain, a boiling hot boulder came crashing down on top of Fred. It had perfect arc and rotation, and came down so fast Fred had no chance to get out of the way. Fred was instantly flattened, but the boulder bounced off and rolled into the ocean.

Amazingly, Fred seemed unhurt, except for a few burn marks on his chest. He staggered back up only to see another boulder coming down near him. Fred tried to run away this time, but the boulder bounced once and came down, flattening him on his back.

A sharp voice rang out from the cave. "Seventy-five points!"

"Seventy-five? Why did I only get sixty?" This voice was rather high- pitched and whiny.

"The target was running when Morgrath hit him. He was stopped when you hit him."

Target? Fred thought. This can’t be good. But maybe that’s what’s keeping me alive when I should have been crushed.

The same sharp voice rang out again. "Next competitor, Miktana." Another boulder shot out from the mountain, flattening both Alura and Astra, who were still fighting with each other. "One hundred twenty points."

Alura and Astra both were surprised that they were flattened but nearly unhurt. They decided to stop fighting and charge the mountain to find out what was going on. Fred and Velus decided it was as good of an idea as anything else, so they hustled behind them.

  1. It was a group of dragons practicing projecting boulders with their flamy breath.
  2. It was a group of Hespan mercenaries practicing shooting boulders out of a cannon.
  3. It was the Annual Desert Gnome Boulder Catapult Tournament.
  4. Before they could get up there, all of them were flattened by someone rolling a boulder down the mountain. "Three hundred points!"
