What Has Happened to Alura?

"But how can that be?" Astra asks. "We've been on the island for a year, and we haven't seen any dangerous animals. Surely something like that couldn't have remained concealed from us for so long on an island this size?"

1. What happened to Alura remains a mystery. She is never found, either alive or dead.
2. The animal that attacked her shows itself.
3. Alura turns up alive, with a number of nasty cuts.
4. Velus smiles knowingly to himself. For he is the only large creature with claws that lives on the island. Having had a score to settle with Alura, he had tracked her down a few hours earlier and attacked her.
