The Vogon guard decides that he would rather take these intruders to the
captain than lead them to a wall comms unit. When the captain sees the
number of guns that he was up against, perhaps he will accept that
resistance would indeed have been futile, and his (the guard's) punishment
will therefore not be too severe.
Even allowing that the captain is a Vogon, he is not a pretty sight. Arthur gulps when he sees him, but manages to avoid throwing up. "What is the meaning of this?" the captain barks, getting up from his chair with all the agility of a walrus. He then sees that a large number of guns are trained on him, and decides that it might be prudent to sit down again. "Take this ship to Cuba," Cuthbert says. He seems to be in an unusually frivolous frame of mind today. He goes on: "To be serious, we are hitching a lift on your ship." "It sounds more like you're hijacking it to me," the captain grumbles. "Not at all. Well, hardly at all. We want to get to a restaurant called Milliways, otherwise known as 'The Restaurant at the End of the Universe'.
