Doctor Who and the Nomic of Death: Just What Constitutes a Rescue?

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 44493

"That might be sufficient to get us the five points," Stacy remarked, interrupting the princess. "Even though she doesn't really need rescuing in the traditional sense."

Princess Gloria gave her a puzzled look. "I don't know what you mean by 'five points', but anyone who successfully takes the challenges is supposed to get half my father's treasure and my hand in marriage. Of course, it never occurred to my father that a woman might take the challenges. But if the challenges were to be solved, my father could no longer set them for potential husbands. Maybe, just maybe, he'd let me make my own mind up as to my preferred suitor. And if a mere woman could solve the challenges," and here an ironic tone came into her voice, "he might decide that I was capable of running my own life; maybe he'd even let me get a job."

"Well," said Betty-2, "perhaps you could tell us a bit about what the challenges involve?" Though she thought that she could predict what the answer would be from her knowledge of Game 3.

"I can't tell you too much ahead of time," said the princess, "or my father might say that you had had an unfair advantage. However, I can tell you that in accordance with tradition there are three of them:

  1. "All of them tests of intelligence and problem-solving."
  2. "Two of them tests of intelligence, and the third involving bungee jumping." Both Bettys paled.
