Fred and Alric's errand progressed as smoothly as they could have hoped
for. Within three days they had reached the nearest village. They had no
difficulty in buying two additional horses and some supplies there. Soon
they were heading back towards the caves.
On the return journey, Alric noticed that Fred seemed to become more and more withdrawn. And whenever Alric spoke to him, the knight would almost snap his head off, something that was quite out of character. Alric was puzzled by this. Their mission had gone well, had it not? He did not know that Fred was wrestling with his conscience over Belboz's strange offer. [41757] Would it be a betrayal of his sister if he urged her to accept it? Apart from that, the return journey passed as smoothly as the outward one had done, this time without their encountering any strange portents. Soon they were back at the cave entrance.
