Astra's Plan

"I saw a door in the wall of a passageway where there had never been a door before, and I was unwise enough to open it and walk through. I should have known that it would be a magic portal. I finished up here. That was a couple of months ago. So how do you come to be here?"

Fred explains, finishing up by telling Astra that he is now a private in George Washington's army.

"That could be very useful," Astra says. "You can put in a good word for me. You see, I'm here to join up. Fighting is the only thing that I know how to do. Well, apart from being royal, and that's something that I've found that it's best to keep quiet about in the America of 1776."

"You do realise that women can't be soldiers here?"

"Of course. I'm going to disguise myself as a man."

1. "That might work. I'm George Washington's 'gofer', so I'll be in a position to put in a good word for you."
2. "That will never work. It wasn't only the queen who grew two cup sizes, was it?"
