"Scott Chen?" the chief slave trader said with a sigh. "Okay, we'll take
him off your hands for twenty gold pieces."
"Accepted," Fred said quickly. "I must say I didn't expect to get such a good price for him." The trader shook his head. "No, no. That's what you must pay us." "I thought you were slave traders." "What made you think so?" Fred looked up. "Well, when I point the mouse at you, the tag says 'ruthless slave traders'." "I told you we should have brought Ruth with us," one of the other traders quipped. Ignoring him, the leader frowned at Fred. "So you are on of those people," he observed. "One of those who claim to see the fourth wall." Fred stared back at him, more than a little confused. "What have the walls of the fort to do with it?" he asked. "Never mind that. As I was about to say, we have dealt with this fellow before. He keeps turning up like a bad penny." "A talking penny," the other trader put in. "With body odor." "No one in their right mind would buy him," the leader continued undaunted. "And we don't deal with insane people. Present company excluded." "Hey!!" The leader smiled. "At least you are faster on the uptake than the last guy. Anyway, he's pretty much unsaleable, so we have to cart him around until we find some idiot who will accept him as a free sample. In the meantime we must feed him and put up with his shenanigans. So, you pay us."
