"How are we going to find the treasure in water as dark as this?" Astra
asked.
Slowly, the man pulled out two small blue gems, that appeared to be glowing
faintly. "These gems," he explained, "naturally glow blue. However, when
they come near the type of jewels that we were stealing, they will glow a
deep red instead." He handed one gem to Astra and the other Ardua. "Right
now, we have other business to attend to. We'll be waiting for you right
here at the same time tomorrow, right here. If you've found the treasure by
then and delivered it to this shore, then we shall reverse the spell. If
not..." The man paused momentarily. "Let's just say I hope you'll enjoy
spending the rest of your life in this lake," he finished with a grin.
The two men then proceeded to remove the water tanks from the backs of the
women. Neither Astra nor Ardua bothered to struggle, since they both knew
resistance at this point in time would be futile. Astra watched the men
leave back the way the way they had come.
Before she even had a chance to think about it, Astra suddenly felt like
she was being choked. Remembering what the man had told her, Astra ran
towards the lake and dived in. As soon as she did, she felt a wave of
relief pass over her naked body. The same thing had apparently happened to
Ardua, for she had dived in quickly as well.
"Well," said Ardua, "Now what do we do?"
Astra looked about the lake. It expanded quite a bit in an almost perfect
circle. The water was too dark to judge how deep it was, so there was
almost no telling whether it would take hours or weeks to scour the entire
thing.
The had only one day, however. If they could find the treasure and get
cured quickly, she might be able to continue her mission, assuming the men
kept their word. On the other hand, Astra had gotten out of some pretty
tight situations before, and there was a fair chance Astra would discover
some way to remove the spell on her own. Finally, Astra said...
-
"We might as well try to find the treasure."
-
"Let's explore the lake on our own first, I have a feeling there's more to this lake then we were told."
-
"I think we should leave this lake and try to find another water source to hide in."
-
"Let's just wait here, Sir Fred will probably show up sooner or later."
