"Dear Diary. It is Day 39 of our stay on this accursed island. After our
passenger ship broke up and the chaos and the confusion and the quite
right impossible things that happened, I thought I had seen it all. But
just two hours ago, I saw a seagull jammed through a knothole. It was
quite disgusting. "The knothole was on a raft that fell apart as two of my friends, Hurley and Mercutio, pulled it's inhabitant out. He is known far and wide as Captain Lots, a drunken layabout of a pirate captain. "There was much discussion on what to do with the man. Sayid, a Hespan soldier, advocated killing him. He was backed up by Sawyer, a rogue I had heard about in several of the towns I had traveled through. "Hurley, a gentle yet intelligent man, whom I have come to admire, said he should be treated but secured to the remnants of the ship that has washed ashore. Several others, Boone, Shannon and the gravid woman Claire, were asked of their opinion, for our unofficial leader Jack is respectful and wise. All had conflicting opinions, though not as drastic as 'killing'. "Our leader, who is also a doctor, treated Lots and he is now sleeping quite peacefully under a large palm tree. I have been asked, by Hurley, to stay nearby. I am loathe to brag but I have been instrumental in combating many of the oddities that this thrice-cursed island has thrown in our faces. I will go now. Signed, Charlie Smiths."
