Astra hesitates. "Of course, if you'd rather, you can just remain chained
up," the Dragon points out. "But I'm not hanging around here if I don't
have any help in fighting the elves, so you could be stuck there for a
very long time. Those chains are magically enhanced, and only I can
release you."
That seems to make Astra's mind up. "It's a deal," she says. "Now if you'd just unchain me and provide me with armour and a sword..." The Dragon gestures, and Astra's chains fall away. He gestures again, and a sword appears in her hand. One appears in your hand too. Apparently the Dragon assumes that, if Astra will fight for him, then you will too. "You've forgotten the armour," Astra tells him. "I didn't forget, but I don't want to tire myself out in advance of the fight by doing too much magic." You wonder whether that is the real reason. Astra looks a little suspicious, but she doesn't object. Instead she asks: "And the gold pieces?" "You get those after the fight, assuming that I'm still alive to give them to you. So you'd better make sure that we win." All this time, the sound of the trumpets has been getting closer and closer.
