The Never Ending Quest - Episode 42830

Fred eyed the girl appraisingly and frowned. “I see,” he said. “You’re a stark raving loon. Makes sense. I, myself, have been stuck down here for ages. It tends to drive one mad. I’ve developed an imaginary friend I like to call Charles the Second, Prince of...”

“No, I’m serious,” Amy cut in, “I’m really a student from another world. I’ve been sent on a quest by the king to vanquish the dragon of these caves.”

“That’s absurd!” Fred roared indignantly. “The king has sent me on the quest to slay the dragon! You are a crazy person.”

“I’m not crazy! Listen, I appreciate your help. Maybe we could team up or something?”

Fred scratched his chin, mulling over her offer. “I’m going to have to consult Charles first. What say you, Charles? Yes...Good point...I’m not sure...I’ll have to ask her...”

Amy tried her best not to look as if any of this was out of the ordinary. Allies were hard to come by down here. “So?” she finally asked. “Are we a team or what?”

“Well, to be frank, Charles doesn’t like you,” he told her straightforwardly. “He says you look like some kind of cheap harlot or deceitful succubus. I can’t help but agree. So...which is it? Cheap harlot? Or deceitful succubus?”

“Neither!” Amy protested.

“Deceitful harlot? Cheap succubus?”

Amy growled in frustration. “I’m not a harlot or a succubus! I’m a student from another world! Maybe you should quit asking you imaginary friend for advice!”

“Charles is an invaluable fountain of wisdom!” Fred retorted. “Just because he doesn’t occupy any physical space doesn’t mean he doesn’t have feelings! He’s rather hurt by that last comment of yours. He demands an apology.”

Amy pursed her lips, but eventually forced herself to apologize.

That seemed to satisfy Fred and...Charles. “Alright, you can join me in my Quest,” he relented. “But you and Charles are really going to have to learn to get along with each other. I can’t have you two bickering the entire time. That being said, do lead on, good Amy.”

Amy blinked. “I have no idea where I am! I was hoping you’d have a better idea of where we’re going.”

Fred shook his head. “Join the ‘hopelessly lost club’,” he sighed. “I’ve been down here for so long I hardly know up from down.”

“Well, let’s just set up camp here for awhile until we get our bearings,” Amy suggested. “There’s two passageways leading from this chamber, not counting the one we just came through. We’ll decide on a course of action once we’re rested up.”

Fred briefly conferred with Charles, and then agreed. After a short period of relaxation they decided to take...

  1. the passageway to the right.
  2. the passageway to the left.
