The young man scrambled to his feet, breathing heavily. He looked down at
the strange dark shape, which was now lying still. "Thank you!" he said.
"You're welcome," Astra replied. "But I should be grateful if in return you would answer some of my questions: "Who are you? "Are you the one responsible for bringing me and my companion into this tower? If so, why? "Where is my companion? "Why am I dressed in frilly pink pyjamas? They're horrible! "And finally, just what is that thing?" She pointed at the dark shape. "So many questions," the young man said. "To take the last one first:
