Fred had noted that Astra seemed to be coming to terms with the idea that
it was her duty to remain a dragon, even if - and from what he had heard
it was by no means certain - it should prove possible to restore her to
her original human status.
But something else was also on his mind. "Excuse me for interrupting, Sartoma, but can Astra do magic whilst she is in her human form?" he asked. "No. At least, not yet. What one might categorise as 'dragon magic' should come naturally to her when in her dragon form, and should be comparatively easy for her to learn. But she would need to learn any 'human magic' that she wishes to perform when in her human form, just like any ordinary human mage would. Such magic would take much time and effort to learn, and she would also need an aptitude for it which she may or may not prove to have. Of course, many dragons have been powerful mages when in human form. That is facilitated by a dragon's long life-span, which means that they are able to spend many decades, or even centuries, studying 'human magic'."
