A Room for the Night

"The spell that I know only lasts for a short time, I'm afraid. So it might be useful for a particular discussion, but it wouldn't be a permanent solution. Now, about that bath..."

"Don't you have a bath at wherever you are staying?"

"Well, actually I don't have a room for tonight. I'm a bit short of money at the moment, and I had to choose between shelter and food. I decided it was more important to eat. So now you know why I was out so late."

Astra sighed. "It doesn't seem that you made a very good decision. I'm going to tell Charmina what you've told me, and see if she's willing to have you sleep on the floor of our room. I can't ask Angela at the moment, of course. Before you get too excited, I should tell you that Charmina and Angela have been sleeping fully clothed."

"I'd be very grateful."

Astra and Charmina had a short conversation in Aqualarian, which Rayner of course could not follow. Then Astra told him: "Charmina agrees. But she asked me to point out that if you try any funny business you will find her dagger sticking between your ribs. Now if you'll help me carry Angela back up to our room, we can find out when we get there if there's a bath that you can use."

1. Rayner did as he was asked.
2. But at that moment Angela regained consciousness. Astra recounted her conversation with Rayner and asked Angela if she was willing for Rayner to spend the night on the floor of their room.
