Fred's Generalisation

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 42002

"Hey," Astra projected with mock indignation. "That's something of a generalisation, isn't it? I have not the slightest interest in kidnapping any noble damsels. But you might be able to tempt me with some well-built, handsome, peasant lad."

Sartoma chuckled. "It is a generalisation," she agreed. "Most dragons never kidnap anyone, of course. But if a dragon does go rogue, then it makes sense for him - and it's usually a male - to kidnap victims where the ransom can be set as high as possible. That's not going to be peasants or artisans. You'll be wondering why there seems to be a preference for high-born daughters rather than sons, though. One reason is that girls tend on the whole to be less trouble to keep in captivity - they are generally more passive and less likely to try to escape, though of course there are exceptions."

Sartoma paused, so Fred asked: "And I take it that there is another reason?"

Sartoma looked slightly uncomfortable. "I'm afraid that something that most people who know little about dragons have probably assumed all along just happens to be true. That second reason is sexual. Remember that a masculine dragon's main alternate form is that of a human male. That can have an influence on his desires even when he's in his dragon form. To put it bluntly, it may tittilate him to keep a helpless damsel as his prisoner. In fact it is not unknown for a dragon to adopt his human form and rape his captive."

"I think that might have been my own fate before too long if Minestus had been able to bring his plans to fruition," Astra projected. "But perhaps we should turn this discussion to something more pleasant."

  1. "Yes, we've rather strayed away from your magical capabilities," Sartoma agreed. "There's at least one other important area that we ought to cover."
  2. "I have another question, Sartoma, arising from what you were discussing earlier," Fred said. "Is it true that dragons can read minds? Would I know about it?"
