"Well, since it has to be able go through both your own and the other person's skulls, I don't think that it's so surprising that it will work through other obstacles as well. A dragon's mouth isn't adapted for human speech, so obviously the ability to project your thoughts into people's minds is essential. The ability to read their thoughts is rather less so, since you can still understand what they say in the ordinary way. But it should be very useful during our journey, when the wind would carry our speech away and prevent you from hearing us in the conventional way."

"I've not attempted any thought reading apart from during my initial encounter with Fred and Checkers, when I thought that they were about to kill me. If it isn't necessary for my survival then it seems rather rude to eavesdrop on people's thoughts, especially where they are my friends. As for projecting, can I do so to a particular individual's mind rather than to everyone within range as I've been doing up till now? That could be very useful in certain circumstances.
