Neelix ran in terror from the relentless pursuit of the Borg drone.
The Talaxian
glanced over his shoulder and then crashed into an unfortunately positioned
chair. He
slammed into the floor and lay sprawled, his stunned mind a mix of fear and
panic. The
drone stood over Neelix's gibbering form and calmly bent down, his hand
reaching out.
The drone's assimilation tubes slithered out into the open and Neelix
screamed and shut his
eyes. He hoped that it wouldn't hurt it too much.
His heart jackhammered within him as he held his breath and waited for his assimilation. But the nano-injection didn't come. Neelix decided to risk a peek up at his attacker, praying to the Universe that the Borg wasn't playing some kind of sadistic mind game with him. But then why else hadn't he been Borged yet? What he saw filled him with grateful surprise. Seven stood with her arms around the drone, pulling it away from him. Neelix started breathing again. Seven struggled against the bio-mechanical menace for some minutes. The Borg was strong, and determined to fulfill its purpose. But Seven of Nine was stronger, and her reacquired humanity had given her a strength of will that no simple-minded Borg drone could match. And so, when Tuvok and his security detail rushed into the mess hall, what they found was an incapacitated Borg, an ecstatic Talaxian and a disturbed Seven of Nine. "Is a Borg Cube in the vicinity?" she asked Tuvok as he approached. "Negative," the Vulcan replied. "Then where did this drone come from?" she wondered out loud. "I think I can explain that," a voice called out from the doorway. Tuvok and Seven turned around and saw Ensign Bieber of Engineering standing there.
