My Mind to Your Mind, Your Thoughts to My Thoughts

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 41197

"Are you sure it's still necessary?" McCoy asked.

"I am," Spock said calmly. "I need to ascertain to what degree these creatures have intertwined themselves with our female crew. After I do this, Doctor, I suggest you begin examining this being to determine why it failed to thrive within Ensign LeClerc. Knowing what broke its hold could allow us to more easily remove them from the others."

"Right," McCoy nodded. Fred knew from Uhura's memories that McCoy could be irascible, almost grouchy, towards Spock at times, but when push came to shove, it all vanished. There were no two better men to stake the ship's future on. "But be careful, Spock - you know how strong these beings are. They put you under once by remote - a little brain to brain contact might let them do it again."

Spock's eyebrows went up at the term "Brain to Brain", but the Vulcan nodded gravely. "I assure you, doctor, I have every intention of proceeding cautiously."

Having experienced the meld once before from the inside, Fred was fascinated to watch the process as an observer. Spock stood over the unconscious nurse, rubbing his hands together. Then he placed his long fingers over her face, positioning them on what she knew were clusters of nerves. "My mind," he said softly, as he had to her earlier, "To your mind. Your thoughts to my thoughts." He repeated this mantra again twice - and the last time, Christine mouthed the words with him. Then the two of them lapsed into a deep silence.

They stayed this way for many minutes, unmoving and eyes closed. Fred began to grow worried. "Doctor," she whispered, "How long does it usually take?"

McCoy shook his head. "It varies," he said. "You and he didn't take this long, but I know at least once he was like this for a couple of hours." "So ve just vait?" Chekov asked.

The Doctor shrugged. "Ensign, that's all we can do."

  1. More time passed, with no sign of the meld ending.
  2. Finally, Spock broke contact. "The meld was successful," he announced.
  3. Finally, Spock broke contact. "The meld was not entirely successful," he announced.
  4. Finally, Spock broke contact. "The meld was successful - but not how that Vulcan fool envisioned," he laughed.
  5. Suddenly, with a strangled cry, Spock collapsed to the floor.
  6. Suddenly, everyone in sickbay found themselves drawn into the meld with Spock and Chapel.
  7. Suddenly, Spock's body began to blur and shift!
