The Mysterious Chest

It took a little work, but Fred soon managed to bring the chest ashore. The chest was made of a strange material, not metallic in any way, but still smooth and shiny. It appeared that the chest had been made to be watertight and float. Fred had never seen anything like it.

Fred fumbled around and finally found two small switches, that when pressed at the same time, enabled the chest to be opened. Inside was a dazzling away of switches and levers. But what stood out was a large red button. A small sign next to it said simply "Push Me."

Fred figured that there was no visable way off of the island, so pushing the button couldn't make things worse. He shrugged and hit the button. The chest emitted a low hum and began vibrating, causing Fred to take an involuntary step backwards.

Suddenly, out of nowhere appeared a tall, handsome man. Fred was a mighty warrior, but looking at the muscles, armor, and weaponry possessed by the man in front of him, he felt humbled. The man smiled at Fred, and spoke with a familiar voice: "Thank you, Fred, for pushing that button and bringing me into this world."

Fred was curious, but cautious. "I'm sorry," he asked. "Do I know you?"

The man laughed. "Of course. I am The Programmer! Don't look so alarmed, Fred. When I upgraded your world to deal with the E2K problem, I made a few...er...enhancements. I made this a world where I could be good-looking and strong, where I could be a great knight...like you, my most admired creation. In this world, I am no longer a simple programmer, I am Sir Programmer!"

"Hmm...Sir Programmer is rather unwieldy," complained Lord Frederick, "so I shall dub thee Sir Graham!"

1. Fred and Graham search for a way off the island.
2. Fred and Graham investigate the (now dismembered) skeleton.
