"Your supplies and other necessities are all in that pack," Vincent said,
pointing to the other side of the room where a huge bundle sat. "It's
heavy, of course, but it's nothing a big strapping girl like my Astra here
can't handle." Astra bristled at this familiar and possessive comment,
but held her tongue. "Here we have food, potable water, a most recent map
of the caverns, a couple of shields, some body armor - rather more for
you, Fred, since your skin's not nearly as tough and thick as Astra's is
now - and, ah yes, a nice set of swords - lovely, don't you think?" Vincent handed them the swords to inspect. Fred's was considerably longer and sharper looking than Astra's, but her blade had been replaced by a set of serrated teeth, making it look fiercer. The hilt was carved in the shape of a stylized "V", and there was tiny writing on the end of it. Astra inspected it more closely - and immediately wished she hadn't. The inscription read: Both this sword and the person wielding it are the property of Doctor Preeminencius Emeritus Vincenzio Haroldan Maude Van Damme Uber Priceless. Astra seethed at this further humiliation. She glanced up angrily and saw the sorceror/scientist smiling broadly at her, then turn away with a wink. She didn't know why Vincent seemed to have it in for her, but he was apparently trying to provoke her for some reason. Fred, who had not bothered to examine the words on his sword, fastened it to his belt. "Is there any chance that this Minestus will return to make trouble for us?" he asked. "Possible but unlikely," Vincent said. "At last report, Minestus was far from here, engaged in a struggle with another magician over on some island or something. Now, before I send you on your way, are there any more questions?" "I have one," Astra said.
