Astrid picked herself up off the floor, and gave her body a quick cursory
examination. Everything seemed to be normal - at least as far as Astra's
body was concerned. Blast it all! I was hoping that the door would change me back! Why didn't it? The answer came from inside her head. Mistress, it was I that prevented your change - for your own protection. You stopped the change?!? Astrid was torn between outrage and indignation. Yes, mistress. The door was about to transform you - but not into your old body. Oh. That certainly made a difference. Then what was it... Astrid's thought was interrupted by a sound. Off to her left was a small brown dog, yapping furiously. A dog that seemed quite familiar. "Velus?" she said out loud. "But - you changed back. You're a dog again." However, the dog's attention was focused on something else, and he continued to bark and growl furiously, and the hackles on his back rose. Concerned as to what might be drawing the dog's attention, Astrid spun around to find:
