Fred Attacks the Dragon

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 40117

However, before he can begin dancing, the dragon is presented with another present, then another, then another. Before long he has unwrapped and shown politely-feigned surprise and delight at a variety of tea cups, tea cosies, tea strainers and of course teas. (If this story were written from the dragon's perspective it would now go on to explore the dragon's regret at mentioning a few weeks ago that he quite fancied a cup of tea, but as it isn't it won't).

From his hiding place at the cave mouth Fred views the proceedings, watching and waiting for the right time to strike . . . Eventually it arrives: the dragon is given an extremely large parcel, wrapped in silver paper and covered in a pink ribbon long enough to have been used to mummify a human. The dragon makes rather a meal of the unwrapping (although to be fair his relatively short and inflexible claws put him somewhat at a disadvantage) and soon finds both his forelegs wrapped up tightly in the ribbon, his back now turned towards Fred.

"Now might I do it, pat." Fred mutters to himself, quietly unsheathing his sword. Then he re-sheathes it. Then unsheathes it again. This goes on for some time (Fred quite likes this for some reason. Not in a pervy way, you understand). Finally the blade remains unsheathed and with a mighty roar Fred leaps forward and, before the dragon or any of its companions can react, stabs his trusty sword into the dragon's back, between its scaly wings. The blade

  1. strikes home!
  2. snaps in twain!
  3. wait a minute - who is "Pat"?
