Belboz continued: "It's obvious that we cannot defeat Rogell through force
of arms. He has hundreds of soldiers to call on and we are but three. That
leaves us two alternatives that I can see. We could try to assassinate him
by conventional means, or we could use magic against him, either to kill
him or to render him harmless."
"There may be a third alternative," Cecilia said. "If we could sufficiently discredit him that the other dukes turned against him, then his teeth would be drawn. He can't proclaim himself king when my father dies, or act against me should I return to the capital before my father's death, without their support - or at least their acquiesence." "I'm not sure that there would be time to discredit him," Belboz responded. "As I told you, your father's death is near, perhaps only a matter of days away." "Then surely we must hasten to Caemlyn," Cecilia said. "If necessary, I can disguise myself. For that will be where we will find Rogell, and we must find him before we can act against him."
