Why he did it the hard way

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 39502

The lack of info wasn't the only thing that was bothering him at the moment. The fact that this man, against his own free will, had caged him like an animal, beat him unconscious, and tied him up from feet to neck didn't make him any more keen about this.

Talan just smiled at Fred attentively. "I know what you're thinking Frederic. You think I'm damn well insane for bringing you here like this."

"Yes, that's about right" Said Fred, rage beginning to grow inside of him. "Why didn't you just ask front hand?"

"Because I knew that you would say no" Talan said casually, calmly taking another sip of tea.

Fred stood up and slammed his fist against the wooden table, which unfortunately, had some small pricks of wood sticking out, causing Fred to get more than one sliver. But he ignored the pain. "I don't have time for your little games! I have a quest I need to be continuing! Out of habit, Fred unsheathed his sword (He usually had it out during rages such as this), and, to his surprise, found it resting softly in its sheathe.

"Take it as a tolken of trust" Talan said, taking note of everything Fred had just done, then standing up himself. He wore nothing more than a brown, leather jacket and pants. From what Fred could see, he appeared to be dawning no weapons.

"It's as simple as this, Fred. I brought you here so that before you made your decision, you could see for yourself the benefit of this tournament. You have no idea our big this event is. Your kingdom is a very small one. Many of the Major kingdoms don't even bother marking your kingdom on their world maps. Of course, King Emry tries to hide this. He feel ashamed to rule over so little that he denies existence of the greater Kingdoms."

"That's a lie!" Outburst Fred, now pointing his sword directly between Talan's eyes. He'd deeply respected King Emry his whole life, and insulting his royal majesty was the final straw.

Talan didn't even blink, least of all, flinch. He finished up his tea, and then said "Let me prove it to you". With that, he pushed his chair back, stood up, ("Fred, put your weapon down. What will you possibly accomplish by killing me?") and left the room.

Fred now stood there, alone in this dull room. Having nothing else to do but follow, he opened the door leading out, ascended up several steps, and felt the rays of the sun illuminate his body. Although it had been less than twenty-four hours since he'd last been outside, it felt like years. Reaching the top of the steps, he took a deep breath of fresh air, and looked around his surroundings, expecting to enter the poop deck of a ship, sailing across the sea (He didn't faintly remember the Orcs saying 'Boat Yard', after all).

  1. It turned around to be a different ship than he'd expected.
