An Unfortunate Change in Fortune

The unfortunate victim starts to change. Into something too horrible for casual words to describe.

Now, it's not the elegant (but sometimes devastating) transformation that can be done by a Crystallic. Nor is it the transformation one can get when lycanthropy is involved.

No, it doesn't have the permanency of a Matrix transformation, but it is rather effective, truth be told. It's sort of like one of those frog prince curses from the fairy tales from Earth, but it's twisted. The whole form (a mishmash of various creatures without the ability beyond grunting) is terrible to look upon, scaring your average peasant witless and sure to arouse hoards of farmers to chase down the "monster" with pitchforks and torches.

As it goes, it takes more than one, perhaps. Moreau sees that the ranger leader is visibly sweating in fear as it is very apparent that she'll be next if she doesn't cooperate. If she doesn't, she'll be joining her sisters to haunt the hills around Walants until hunted down and killed by the superstitious and panicky peasentry here about (there are limits what even the folks around here will tolerate, and that's what Moreau knew when she started this with this special curse).

"And if you do cooperate I may spare you and your battle sisters this," the dragoness purrs softly. "Cannot let you go without some form of punishment for trying my patience, but you have my word that at least you and your friends shan't be left as monsters.

"And let me add," Moreau adds. "If you do continue to resist, I shall tear apart your mind to get what I desire in addition to cursing you! Will be time consuming and needlessly painful for you, but . . . . I'm feeling generous today. One last chance, ranger."

Whether or not the last is bluff remains to be seen, but still....not something to dismiss out of hand, eh? Yeah, the dragoness probably will still transform the ranger even if she cooperates, but only into some kind of harmless animal so she and her fellow rangers can't cause troubles later for her (or get her fellow Aqualarians after Moreau to cause future headaches later).
