Through the Forest or through the Caves?

Now he was facing a choice: Would he try to find a way around the Southern Mountains, through a landscape of dark pine forests crawling with black, bloodthirsty beasts? Or would he go back through the Southern Caves, whose entrance had now perished from the face of the mountain?
