Fred's Escape

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 3888

Fred completely ignored the mermaid's warning and swam away from the underwater house. On the surface he had been told in his youth not to listen to faeries or mermaids, though he may have overreacted to the sight of the faerie on the shore. "They can't be trusted, the faerie for her mischief and the mermaid for being a seductress of the sea," Fred thought as he made his way towards the surface, thus explaining why he wanted to get away from the mermaid when he saw her.

Crystal, a proud mermaid, wasn't going to give him up so easily. "How ungrateful can a surface-dweller be? Without me, he would have drowned! I'm not just some small common fish that he can cast aside like those fishermen do up there," she thought while she adjusted her white seashell top. Her strong blue-scaled fish-tail propelled her upwards while she kept her arms at her sides, swimming in an undulating motion.

She broke the surface in the manner typical of her species, brushing the hair out of her eyes with her webbed hands. By this time, Fred had also made it only by the fact that he had a head start.

  1. Fred really had a head start: he made it to the beach before Crystal.
  2. A net dropped over both of them.
  3. Crystal tried to drag Fred back down to her home.
