Metamorphosis, Part II

Lord Fred and Lady Audrey kept on running. Suddenly Audrey gasped and within seconds her whole body changed. Her slender arms elongated, thinned and grew feathers, her legs shortened, fattened and grew leathery and her toes turned to talons, her torso, her head, every part of her became one huge grey eagle. Fred found himself being lifted by the talons and soon saw the island far below him. And sitting on the sands of the beach was the dragon ranting and raving. The dragon Xward was not winged, but rather was a fat fire-breathing wyrm whose days and nights were spent under the ground or under the sea; he could not, as his cousins, sprout wings and fly into the heavens.

Soon the horrendous yells of the aweful wyrm were heard no more and only the swell of the ocean waves reached the ears of Lord Fred. He was in awe at who and what his beloved had become. He did not understand, but he was content to know that it was his love who carried him.

For her part she was half crazed with fear over her metamorphosis and fully worried over how long she could fly with her ex-love weighing her down. She could see no land in sight, and her wings were already tiring.

1. Suddenly the sound of a whistle could be heard; the very sound the first mate of some sea-faring vessel would make!!!
