As he stood there, there was a flash, and then the lights in the room went
out. "Curious," thought Fred. He had not noticed the strange glow in the
ceiling before. As it was still daylight, all in the room could see. It
appeared that the woman standing was unwilling to lose her
composure. "Leave now, or I'll call the police." Fred did not know who the "police" were, though he could understand how ladies could be concerned if someone walked in out of nothing. So, he gallantly bid the ladies good day and turned around to try to find a door. All he saw were clothes dangling from hooks along a bar in front of a wall with very high quality portraits of large muscular men not wearing much. The young woman standing did not find his searching amusing. She marched to the door of the dorm room, opened it, and pointed out. "Leave," she commanded. Fred left. He went down a short hallway and opened the door there. Before him was a staircase leading down. In front of that was a massive forest, with mountains in the distance. He could make out deer with flocks of birds overhead. It was untouched beauty. On the lower level of the building, however, a small group of young people, both men and women, had gathered looking at the trees and murmurring among themselves as if they had not seen trees before.
