Working their Passage

Fred's mouth fell open in surprise. Robert just smiled.

Since brothels were illegal in most countries, Captain Morgan had had the bright idea of using a luxury cruise ship that would never come within territorial waters. (Passengers could be taken aboard or set ashore using the ship's boats.)

"I understand that none of you have any money," Morgan continued. "You will therefore have to work your passage." The smile left Robert's face. The captain went on: "The two men can work in the galley. It's fairly obvious what the two women are best suited for."

Astra's eyes flashed dangerously. "And what would that be?" she asked.

Captain Morgan looked at her angry face.

1. "Er, um, working as maids," he said hurriedly. "You'd help clean the cabins and do the laundry and so forth. If that would be all right?"
2. "Are you musical at all?" he asked. "Maybe you could be part of the caberet."
3. "Well, perhaps you two ladies needn't work your passage after all."
4. He was not deterred. "Let's just say that lying down on the job would not only be acceptable but would be expected."
