Lady Luck Continues to be Unhelpful

The small part of the night that remains passes peacefully, and then we leave the abandoned inn and continue on our journey. hoping that there won't be any more confrontations along the way.

But it seems that Lady Luck is not on our side today. We've gone no more than a few miles when, around a bend in the trail a short distance ahead, come a group of women who, from their build and clothing, can only be a group of Aqualarian rangers. We've seen them much too late for leaving the road and hiding to be an option; they've already spotted us and would immediately be suspicious if we were to run off into the bushes now. No, we will just have to hope that our magical disguises will do their job.

The rangers will naturally be curious about our party. If this world is like most of its analogues, then it will be rare to see humans and elves travelling together. "Good day to you," their leader hails us. "We don't often encounter a party like yours. It looks like you have come from Walants, judging by the way that you are headed. I don't suppose that any of you has happened to see a tall, athletic, good-looking, red-headed woman there - or anywhere else for that matter? She's in her early twenties, and would probably be dressed as a warrior."
