Well now, at least one sensible person in this bunch!

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 38311

Dragoness Astra

"So you know what this gizmo is, do you?" Dragon Synizn says. "I thought that you must do when I saw you all look so worried when I pulled it out. That's good, if it means that you will be sensible."

"I don't suppose we can talk all you demifoxes into being sensible as well?" Jarlath asks from the side, grimacing a little bit in a lame attempt to give a reassuring smile. "I mean, do we really have to start on such a hostile foot right away?"

"Not too likely I'll bet," I hear Artizza whisper to Fertal, rolling her eyes a little bit behind the young mages back. She's not really making fun of Jarlath, but honestly I believe (like me) that he's being overly optimistic here. After all, if my love's rather generous warning hadn't been enough to get them to back away (that IS what the count had been for, to give this party time enough to disappear into the night and leave us the @#$% alone)...

The rather hostile growls from Ringroot and the other demifoxes I take means "No, we won't be sensible." and "Yes, we do have to start that way!"

"Don't resist Arkas," Dragon Synizn snaps at the hedge mage (a term that the native Synizn used to describe this mage that I believe is derogatory). Having never heard that term before, I am not sure.

But whatever the case, a short quick barked spell he gives off right after that pretty much tells me what he doesn't want the mage resisting.

I at least know enough about magic to know that this spell is rather basic and weak compared to what he's able to manage, even if through the Crystallic he's using allows the spell to effect many more targets that usual. Yes, the demifoxes didn't stand a chance (or maybe they did....don't know) at resisting, but I seem to remember from my studies on magic (which I rather neglected, concentrating more on weaponry lessons) that mages are able to resist magicks more easily than other, normal folk.

As it is, our "hedge mage" is smart and collapses along with the demifoxes (who stagger about for a few seconds, trying to not fall unconscious).

.....

Goddess Tiamat, I . . . wish so very much now that I concentrated more on magic. Even learned the silvery ways of that Arte before my transformation. Now, without it I feel a need within me that all wyrms are able to fulfill with nary a thought.

I want so very much to learn I can from Synizn's mage friends.

No.

I want to learn from my husband and mate . . . . but I fear that he'd been rather stubborn on the matter. Had said that the only dragon mage who could probably do something like that with a mate was a friend named Sigin who'd gone off adventuring with some kind of doctor. My love said that his mentor had taught him some secretive but powerful techniques of the mind and....

Nevermind that. Whatever the case my husband had kept saying that he and I would keep getting . . . too distracted in the study sessions and we'd end up doing other things . . . .

Again and again and....

....

Hrmph, pardon. Got distracted....

Well, now it's time to find out what the others are going to do next here.

"Gee," Jarlath says softly, "that particular spell get used a lot with our group, doesn't it? You ever notice that?"

  1. "Better than some of the alternatives!" Annafrid grumbles.
