"If you're going to have to search outside of the palace for someone who
can help with my chains, then it's clearly going to take much longer than
I had originally envisaged," Astra said. "So perhaps it would be better
for us to get ourselves cleaned up before you go. Besides, if you go
outside in the state you're in now it may be hard to find anyone who'll
help you. I remember that we passed some bathing facilities whilst
searching for the servants."
Fred and Astra retraced their steps until they reached a bathroom. There was a large bathing pool within it. It was currently empty of water, but a pump emptied directly into it. There was also a hearth, where ewers of water could be heated to add to the cold water from the pump, so that the bathwater could be warmed. However the fire was out, with no obvious way of relighting it. Their bath would have to be a cold one. Around the perimeter of the pool, there were cakes of soap, whilst flannels and towels hung on rails nearby. They filled the pool with water from the pump. Then, while Fred began to take off his filthy garments, Astra got in.
