Fred felt that the Dragoness was starting to become suspicious of him.
And, though Eritrea was formidable, should she decide to attack him then
he would surely have a better chance against her than he would have
against the Dragoness. There was no third option, since Eritrea had taken
the only exit that was too small for the Dragoness to use.
So, with the Dragoness distracted for the moment by the need to save her precious egg, he took the opportunity to follow Eritrea. As long as the tunnel didn't lead to a dead end the chances of escaping from the Dragoness should be quite good. Before long, Fred managed to catch up with Eritrea.
