Off and Running!

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 37482

Synizn

"Of course," I offer. "Do you want to start at once?"

Mother of dragons! For what this dragon--my brother and his friends and the strangers have done I'd.... Do anything! I owe them . . . my life.

To feel the pull of my Hoard....

Feel the flow of magic as I was meant to feel. Feel the world as I have since hatchlinghood.

But . . . how best to repay them all? I . . . . have no real ideas on how to even really begin to do it!

....

I mean, just saying a simple "thank you" hardly works, right? Hardly enough! Anything I can think of . . . fails to even begin to repay in an appropriate manner for these . . .

These "Champions" are from Mother Dragon herself! I know it! And . . . how in the name of the Goddess am I supposed to honor Her (and THEM) correctly? NOTHING I have ever even heard within the temple teachings has prepared me for this! But I want and NEED to do this correctly. Maybe Tiamat will forgive me if I mess up, but I cannot forgive myself if I fail them.

....

I just. . . couldn't. But that said I don't know what exactly to do. I know that they wish aid as in having some kind of guidence (and a guide I shall happily be), but that hardly even begins to....

Damn it, nothing has ever prepared me for a situation even remotely like this. Dragons . . . . don't do . . . what my . . . . "brother" (for want of a better term I use I use a Human term for the strange . . . feelings I feel towards my twin). Dragons . . .or at least Dragons I'm familiar with don't do things like this! Even my arrangement with Malachi had been more for mutual benefit than . . . . At least I . . . . think she did it for just . . . . I'm . . . not sure now, looking back on it. However, that said dragons do things for each other because it profits each party, not . . .

That and I'm feeling . . .

I'm flying blind almost here! Only reason why I even have an inkling (and a dim one at that) on what to do is what I've seen while a lycanthrope infected human. And even that insight into humanity (the tools I'm using to cope) is . . . poor at best. Lycanthropes, I must say, are hardly the most sociable of people at that stage of infection.

Goddess, I was so under it's spell... But at least I learned during my years as a human to . . . .to . . .

Fall flat on my face and fail miserably in repaying. Sigh, guess I'll have to just muddle through it all and pray to the Goddess I don't fail too miserably.

Hm, maybe a Vision might be given by the Goddess sometime to give me guidance and inspiration before they leave. Because that have made it VERY clear that after this Quest of their's is done (full details I feel I don't know but feel unworthy to try to pry from them), they shall depart never to be seen again. Yes, maybe the Goddess will grant me a Vision....

Maybe....

Yes folks, as you all probably have figured out by now the Champions had fulfilled Synizn's dearest wish, so he'd be willing to do absolutely anything for them. However, let us also make something else clear in that Dragon culture on this world is different than what happened on Terra Prime. This culture has been less influenced, to be blunt about it, by human culture. The first real transformation back in dragon culture had looked (at the time) the inevitable war between the Dragons and Atlantis. Back then, dragons were solitary creatures (out for only themselves and only themselves). Then, faced with probable extinction, they had to do something so they used . . . . traits found within their enemies in order to survive. Basically, they adopted human characteristics (the ability to work together, united) in the theory that they could survive.

Yeah, hear what you're saying. Just adopt human characteristics out from the blue into creatures who, by birth and inclination up until that time, had no such thing. They'd been chthonic in nature, the dragons, and suddenly **poof**, so human?

Ah, but remember, we've kind of seen and heard of that time was desperation. Magic spells and ceremony researched and implemented that, even to this day, are having effects on dragonkind. Ceremonies and magicks, once unleashed, couldn't be taken back. Much MORE was done in the Terra Prime timeline than in this timeline, but more on that in a moment.

Alright, if you haven't already figured it out, those magicks changed dragonkind on Terra Prime (and events on a lot of other Terras played out the same way). In order to survive, the magicks (methods lost in the depths of time) altered dragonkind's basic nature, allowing formerly solitary creatures to unite together for mutual survival. By taking on human characteristics, you see, in order to survive. But the idea had been only to take some of humanity's quirks, not what actually happened. Once done, it couldn't be undone and as time goes on we have some kind of hybrid culture. Despite efforts by a fascist government (the ruling faction of the Western Dragons side of the Council of Wyrms), interaction with human culture and dragon culture happened (or "corruption" as they termed it). Nowaday, dragons are still dragons, but a much different "beast" than what they'd originally been (still dragons but with human quirks, shall we say).

What has all that to do with the native Synizn? Why, everything! He never learned about the situation he's in now as a dragon. Only his time as human (a human "stain" in his character--for want of a better word-- that can't be washed away now) allows some kind of handle on the deal at hand.

Ah, not to say, all that said, that our native Synizn (as well as the now departed native Malachi) had been scheming little weasles up until now. Compassion and some kind of companionship had been possible, but it also was made up in large parts of mutual benefit and all that. You dig?

....

Well, that all said, the Champions don't go immediately off to travel. They'd like a meal, at least, before heading out....

So over dinner, Dragon Synizn introduces the others. Synizn is overjoyed that his brother has found a "lifemate" (his words), but is taken aback...

  1. "So....you were not only a human," Synizn begins, a bit wide eyed. "But you, in this seeming, are what the little demifox female looked like, before?"
