The script used in the book was so bizarre that it almost hurt Stacy's
eyes to look at it. To her, it seemed to be a bizarre cross of Arabic and
Chinese. She couldn't help but feel puzzled by this. What's the point
of providing books when I can't read them? She put the book back. On a
whim, she picked up a book from the middle shelf. To her surprise the
language appeared to be different, closer to English then the other, but
still totally undecipherable. Putting that one back, she chose another,
this time on the lower shelf. Different language again, but this to
Stacy's untrained eye rather looked like shorthand, being little more to
her then a series of squiggles and dots.
Putting the last book back, she surmised that the books were in the
various languages of the land she was now in. She idly wondered why
her 'host' hadn't probed her mind and had them translated into
English. "Why, but to enjoy your confusion, of course!" Minestus' voice, somehow seeming to echo in her head and the room at the same time, startled her out of her reverie. "Be glad, for your amusing me is all that is keeping you alive." This wasn't true, however. He hadn't gone back on his word about not harming her, it was just that she was very easily frightened. She was the very first human he had encountered to be like that, and so he was making the most of it. He changed his tone to one of concern. "You're looking rather pale. Would you like to go out for some air?" She pondered this. I would like to, but does he have something planned for me? On the other hand, what if I refused? Would he get mad?
