Whatever might befall him subsequently, now at least he had the chance to
complete his quest. Whilst Sir Toby cowered against the wall, Fred engaged
the green dragon, who was about the same size as he was himself, with
tooth and claw.
Dragons' scales are tough, and it was difficult for either combatant to inflict serious damage on the other. Nevertheless Fred, with no experience of fighting in his dragon form and handicapped by his injured foreclaw, was starting to have the worst of it, when unexpectedly there arrived on the scene a tall, attractive, red-headed woman wearing chain mail and carrying a sword.
