This does not bode well for our hero

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 36911

". . . and that's why there's ruined armour on the floor. Belboz's remains are hidden behind that rock."

Fred expected Sir Toby to be sympathetic. They had been friends since childhood, and they had fought together on more than one occasion. Instead, the moment he finished, Sir Toby's sword was unsheathed. "So Belboz served his purpose even after death," he said.

"What?" Fred backed up, "What's this? Toby, it's not like I'm the Dragon of the Southern Caves or anything I-"

"Until about a day after you set out for the caves, scholars have been baffled by the unusually aggresive patterns the Dragon. Usually, any aggression in this particular type of dragon is purely territorial. Then, one of them discovered in an old tome a forgotten legend of a clan of people who were cursed to be part dragon, how they would transform in a rage, and how they simply vanished. At first, it seemed just like it was a story written to scare young children to bed at night. Then, records of a mass slaughter of peasants about twenty years ago, were unearthed. Large dragon-like footprints led away from the village, odd, seeing as how dragons usually fly from such things. Even stranger, they shrank and changed shape as one followed them, eventually looking like a man left them. The clues added up to one thing. There are dragon-shifters in the kingdom. I was sent to fetch Belboz, one of the few skilled necromancers left, to try to summon the dead peasants and learn about the shifters. Little known fact nowadays, necromancers specialize in prophesying by conjuring the dead.

Now, you see, the Dragon of the Southern Caves' attacks seemed so similar to a dragon protecting it's territory, we suspected it idendified the shifters as other dragons , and they must be in close proximity to the caves, they may even be nobility that owned one of the castles (castle D'Honaire being one of them) built along the mountains for defense in case the Aqualarians were planning an invasion. Frighteningly efficient crossing the mountians, aren't they? I do not think His Majesty trusts them. Anyways, it's hard to believe, the dragon-shifters are the great D'Honaires! Oh well, you had better come with me Fred, if you really want what's best for your kingdom."

"What is the king planning for us?" Fred asked, half in disbelief, "Is he going to relocate us or-"

"You know His Majesty. He is often less than merciful in most situations. Also, justice will have to be served for the sensless slaughter of those peasants."

Always duty before friendship, Fred thought of Sir Toby. And that a D'Honaire would brutally slay innocents like that. . . Wait, Belboz said there was another. . . (10393)
