Singing has an Undesired Effect

It was to be shortlived. She did her best to hide her fright as he told her she would continue to enjoy her good health as long as she continued to sing. "What else do you know?"

She had to think hard, there were songs there, but mostly in fragments - commonly the parts of songs that were repeated the most. Her memory eventually managed to grab hold of a complete song. It was the classic hymn "Amazing Grace". She didn't know what sort of reaction she'd get, but she had no choice. Her nerves made her stutter a bit to begin with. Focusing on the hymn seemed to help.

So intent was she that she failed to notice Minestus remove a handkerchief and dab his eyes with it. Minestus prided himself on not being very emotional, so the fact that a mere song could have that effect was puzzling to him.

When Stacy had finished, he quickly hid the hanky. Had she seen it, it would have been quite a blow to his ego. "Very...nice," he eventually said. "That will do for now. I've reserved some temporary quarters for you." He clicked his fingers and a servant appeared. "Just follow him."

Stacy did as she was told and followed the servant out of the room. Minestus gave a sigh. He hoped further songs would not have a similar effect on him. If that happened, he'd have to think of something else for her to do, as he still wanted her alive. She was too intriguing.
