Fortunately the handtruck was quite low to the ground, for without legs
Fred and Astra were limited in how high they could lift a weight. They
realised that if they filled the boat with water before putting it on the
truck it might be too heavy to lift, at any rate without a great effort.
So they lifted it into position first, without too much difficulty. Then
they began the laborious task of using the containers to fill the boat
with water from the lagoon.
Eventually they were done. They lifted Velus and put him in the boat. Then they got in themselves, carrying a pole each. They had to be careful in doing so not to tip over the boat, which would have undone all their hard work of "bailing in reverse".
