I heard an alarm chime and noticed a red light on the panel. The starboard
engine had shut down! Even worse, a few seconds another chime indicated
the loss of the port engine. With a series of violent shudders the Phoenix
was unceremoniously dumped back into normal space. I stared in disbelief
at the two lights still glaring red. I had not even travelled a third of
the distance back to explored space. Russilinia's star was the brightest I
could see, and I wondered if I was still in communications range. I was,
just. None of the ships they had could help me out of my predicament, so I
asked if some could see to it that the Astra was refuelled. I was
within
the Astra's range, and my only hope was for someone to be able to
fly her
to my current position - once I'd told them the code to unlock the
Astra's
controls. I was rather loathe to do that, but hey, with my life on the
line I had to make certain sacrifices. The Astra wasn't exactly the
hardest vessel to fly. The more experienced of the Russilinians shouldn't
have that much trouble. The rest of my plan went like this - as the Phoenix wasn't that large, it should be possible for her to fit through the doors to the main cargo hold. There should be enough space once most of the Farscape whisky had been removed. Since the Phoenix didn't have any manoeuvring thrusters, it would be up to whoever was piloting the Astra to do all the work. Hopefully the problems the Phoenix had suffered could be ironed out so I could make the attempt again.
