A Barbarous Cult?

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 34939

Astra ignored the man's entreaties. It seemed to her that he was an acolyte of some cult that believed in human sacrifice. How else to explain that disturbing statue of a man being crucified which she had seen? She poled the skiff back into the heart of the lake, until the mists once again hid the temple from sight.

It was misty, but it was not dark. For the first time, she wondered how that could be if this lake was truly underground. Could there be an opening high above that let in some light? She looked upwards, but all that she could see was the mist.

  1. There was a sudden "scrunch", and the planks of the skiff shattered and water rushed in. Her craft must have hit a rock just below the surface.
  2. The waters of the lake had been absolutely still until now, but then a current picked up, taking the skiff with it.
  3. Through the mist, Astra saw a light. She poled the skiff towards it to investigate.
