I could smell cooking food. It was a long time since I had eaten, and I
realised that I was hungry. So I sat down in the indicated place, and
waited to see what would happen.
I gradually became aware of what could best be described as a subdued babble of conversation. It added to the realism, as it would be what you would expect from a hall crowded with a hundred or so people all waiting for their dinner. I couldn't see anyone, though, nor could I quite make out anything of what was being said. The cooking smells were stronger now. I looked across at the double doors that, if this hall truely duplicated the one back home, would lead to the kitchens, wondering if I would see servants bringing in the meal at any moment. Instead, a bowl of steaming soup materialised in front of me out of thin air.
