The Soup Course is Served

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 34365

I could smell cooking food. It was a long time since I had eaten, and I realised that I was hungry. So I sat down in the indicated place, and waited to see what would happen.

I gradually became aware of what could best be described as a subdued babble of conversation. It added to the realism, as it would be what you would expect from a hall crowded with a hundred or so people all waiting for their dinner. I couldn't see anyone, though, nor could I quite make out anything of what was being said.

The cooking smells were stronger now. I looked across at the double doors that, if this hall truely duplicated the one back home, would lead to the kitchens, wondering if I would see servants bringing in the meal at any moment. Instead, a bowl of steaming soup materialised in front of me out of thin air.

  1. I picked up my spoon and started to eat. (Do you eat soup or drink it? I'm never quite sure.) It was very good indeed.
  2. Then the bowl rose into the air and poured its contents all over me!
  3. Then I heard the dragon's voice in my head: "That was a little reminder of how it used to be for you. You can look back on it and weep, as I reveal what I have planned for your future."
