Cunning Doesn't Always Triumph

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 32990

Lord Fred might be somewhat hidebound in his opinions, but he was not a stupid man. Since the garden had to be an illusion (conjured up by the elf's singing?), then surely the snake must be too.

Not only was he not stupid, but he could also be brave and decisive at need. In one swift movement, he bent down and grabbed the "snake". Ignoring its seeming wriggling, before Jenny could react he had tied it round his neck.

With that, the illusion swiftly dissipated. Sure enough, it was the rope rather than a snake around his neck, and they were still in the cave. He had won!

"Well done," Jenny said sportingly. "You fought well."

"So did you," Fred said politely, though privately he felt that using magic was little better than cheating. Still, at least he hadn't hurt the girl. With any luck, he would only face male opponents in future rounds.

  1. Belboz, Ia'adoire and Lueoth return with the food, so there is a break in the contest.
  2. Now it's the turn of Tarin Gazin v. Astra Cistyrgia.
