The Angry Ducks

Josh tries the button again, only to find it doesn't work. He frantically presses it a few more times until the button pops off and hits him on the nose. He attempts kicking them, but they simply manoeuvre themselves out of the way. He runs towards his bedroom and manages to lock himself in with the ducks hurling themselves impotently against the door.

Josh suddenly remembers the old hunting rifle he once used taking pot shots at Weird Flying Thinges (Wifties as he called them). These were undescribable yet benign creatures that lived outside the Staircase Room. He grabs it from underneath his bed and goes to do battle with the ducks.

1. Unfortunately, he left some wadding in the barrel last time he cleaned it. It backfires in his face.
2. The rifle jams, and he has to spend several agonizing moments clearing it.
3. He forgot, he has no ammunition. Do'h! He tries to use it like a club.
