The Long and Drawn Out Story of the Gathering of the Army

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 3264

"Hear ye! Hear ye!" The towne crier proclaimed in the central square of the Kingdom's capital city. "The King hath proclaimed that an army shall be formed to slay the foul dragon that hath plagued our southern caves for years!"
"What!?" A merchant exclaimed, flailing his arms about madly. "I thought Lord Fred was sent to slay the blinkin' beast!"
"Lord Fred died." A blind beggar answered, leaning on his staff. "I say we send this towne crier to battle the wyrm!"
The towne crier, a scrawny lad, looked quite flustered at the beggar's suggestion. "Well the king sent Sir Josh the computer geek, but to no avail. So every man from the ages of 7 to 73 shall be sent to battle!"
"7 to 73!?" An old toothless whore yelled. "There won't be anyone to protect the Kingdom! The Aqualarians could send an invading horde of their fierce warrior women!"
"I'd rather like that!" A pageboy said, licking his lips. "Maybe they'd make me their slave!"
"Save the dragon!" A hairy man yelled, running into the center of the square. "If we destroy the dragon, we could cause an imbalance in the echo system!"
"You've got a point!" The toothless whore agreed. "Are you taking contributions for the cause?"
"Aye, indeed!" Said the hairy man, scratching his beard. "Whatever you've got to give!"
"Well I suppose I could give a few gold coins..." The merchant reached into his gold pouch after saying this, only to find it empty. "Thief!" He exclaimed, pointing to the blind beggar, who was now running into a dark ally.

Suddenly a trumpet sounded, and the King entered the city's central square, escorted by a fancy caravan and group of soldiers.

"Hear ye! Hear ye! Make way for his majesty, the King!" The towne crier proclaimed.
The King nodded and said "Upon the request of the reader I must now gather an army, and it must be a drawn out ordeal! So let's get to it, people!"

And so throughout the kingdom the word was sent, and an army was gathered. Every man from the ages of 7 to 73 was sent to the Kingdom's capitol, were they would have a crash course in fighting dragons. There wasn't enough armour or weapons to supply the soldiers, and not enough metal or smiths to make more, and not enough ore or miners to gather more raw materials, and the mountains were too far away to get any supplies that could be gathered in time for the armys' departure. And since most of the Kingdom's crops had been burnt by the dragon, the soldiers would have to defeat the dragon before they starved, thus giving them an inspiration to fight, seeing that morale was low due to the death of Lord Fred and the fact they were forced to go to war in such short notice.

Indeed, morale was so low that the King decided to burn Lots42 at the stake, for the crime of "Witchcraft, murder, meddling in the affairs of the dragon, and all together too much addventuring." So the day before the army would depart, the King decreed the burning of Lots42 (and his little dog, too).

That cloudy day a vast multitude of people gathered around the central square to watch the burning. The stake was set, Lots42 (and his little dog, too) was tied to it, and the fire was about to be set when suddenly...

  1. Sir Josh came to the rescue!
  2. The Dragon descended over the sqaure!
  3. The Aqualarians attacked!
