Fred's campaign to bring down the World Trade Center started with his job
as a fry cook at McDonald's somewhere in Manhattan. His wages start out
at $2.15 an hour. Fred soon begins working as many as 65 hours a week to
finance his mad scheme. He saves every penny he makes, and takes a room
at the nearby homeless shelter in the basement of a YMCA. Occasionally,
during the holiday season, he would sneak money out of the safe and take
it home. Usually, some hapless city kid would take the fall for the
missing money, as management would never suspect Fred taking the money. The years pass. Fred's bank account grows, but he eventually maxes out at the top salary for a fry cook, which also increases over time. Amazingly enough, Fred's skills as a fry cook were a blessing and a curse. This particular McDonald's had many return customers complimenting how good the food was. Essentially, Fred was stuck at his position with nowhere to go. But still, he can't let his insane plans not come to be. Finally, on the morning of September 11th, 2001, Fred reports to work. He had logged 28 years with McDonald's, having been in the same position for his entire stint. He is growing more and more frustrated. Those darned towers still stood, dammit, and Fred absolutely needed to topple them! Fred was busy at work when he heard what sounded like two planes flying dangerously close overhead. He let it go. Finally, the cries of astonishment and horror from inside the dining room area and emitting from the doorway leading out to an alley became too much for Fred to ignore. He uncharacteristically signaled to the boss for an early break, passed his duties to Luigi from the Bronx, and ran outside. The sight of both World Trade Center towers bellowing smoke and fire from the impact of two airplanes devastates Fred. But Fred's grief was not from the horror of the events. It was because he still retained knowledge of the terrorist attack that day, and he hadn't brought down the buildings before Osama's goon squads did. On the verge of tears, Fred rips off his uniform in the alley, dumps it in the trashcan, and goes back to his room in the Y. What happens next?
